Woven in China, Worn Worldwide

In a vast workshop in Fujian’s Changle District, rows of automated machines spin nylon yarn at 5,000 meters per minute, approximating the speed of high-speed railway trains. The threads—finer than human hair—glide along German-engineered production lines, with 10,000 meters weighing just five grams.

“People used to think the textile industry was labor-intensive,” said Fu Chongliang, plant manager of Eversun Jinjiang, a leading nylon manufacturer in China. “But we had already reached Industry 4.0 standards.A packaging line that needed eight workers only needs one.”

Automation reshaped every link of production. From raw material feeding to packaging and storage, the entire process became digitally controlled. Even quality inspection, once a meticulous manual task, was handed over to AI.

“We had even applied AI technology in product inspection, developed with Donghua University,” Fu said. “Cameras recorded images, and AI recognized defects—what used to be manual was now automatic.”

Behind the innovative transformation, Eversun dedicated 3.5% of its annual revenue to research and development and built a team of more than 300 researchers, filing nearly 500 patents over the years.

Among its innovative products stood Jinsheng Yarn, developed with global markets in mind.

Jinsheng Yarn was made from recycled nylon and colored through dope-dyeing technology, which infused pigments directly during spinning. This eliminated the need for traditional water-intensive dyeing processes, cutting both environmental impact and production steps.

“We divided recycling into pre-consumer and post-consumer categories,” Fu explained. “Even nylon stockings could be melted down and reprocessed.”

Through innovations like this, Eversun offered a diversified range of yarns designed to meet shifting market demands—from enhancing comfort and sustainability to delivering specialized performance features—helping its clients differentiate products in a competitive global market.

Environmental responsibility ran through Eversun’s operations. Beyond dope-dyeing, the company invested in solar power, which supplied 15% of its factory’s electricity needs.

“We saved around 30,000 tons of standard coal annually and reduced CO2 emissions by over 7,000 tons,” Fu said.

Water-saving measures raised wastewater recycling rates to 35%, and advanced energy management helped reduce overall consumption by up to 40% compared with industry norms. Even the factory’s power supply system was optimized with high-voltage direct transmission to cut energy losses.

Eversun Jinjiang alone accounted for around 35% of China’s nylon exports. Its products reached Southeast Asia, Japan, Korea, and other key markets.

“We used to be dependent on others,” Fu reflected. “Now, we had replaced them and taken the lead.”

Today, inside Eversun’s automated factory, the hum of machines speaks to a new era in Chinese manufacturing.

China had since emerged as a global leader in nylon production. In 2023, the country produced over 4.3 million tons of nylon—more than 60% of the world’s supply.

China’s ability to produce its own caprolactam—the critical raw material for nylon—removed former supply chain bottlenecks. Eversun’s vertically integrated model, managing every stage from chemical production to yarn, strengthened its market position further.

The company also moved production abroad, setting up operations in Vietnam to adapt to shifting global tariffs and extend its reach in Southeast Asia.

The COVID-19 tested this global strategy. In 2020, Eversun worked with BYD to supply over 100,000 tons of elastic mask straps for export to the United States—a rapid shift that showed its operational flexibility.

Fu credited their success to five key strengths: scientific innovation, a complete industrial chain, automation, green production, and international strategy.

The nylon yarn spun here is woven into yoga wear, down coats, and underwear sold worldwide—a quiet but convincing symbol of how China’s nylon industry stitched itself into the fabric of global commerce.
