Located in the East China Sea, Dachen Islands have been turning into a ‘zero-carbon’ emission island through green power system construction.
Dachen Islands are one of the most abundant wind energy areas in China, with an annual effective wind energy density of 484W/ m2 and an annual effective wind speed of 7,637 hours, which own a great value of exploitation.
Different from traditional High Voltage Direct Current Transmission (HVDC), Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS), the system Dachen islands using now, can solve the problem of energy loss in the process of wind power transmission through submarine cables, and reduce the waste of wind power resources.
" Only one generator set is needed for whole islands power consumption in daily, and the excessive power will be transmitted to the rest of the country by the East China Grid. Dachen Islands are also a rare one that can send power out," Sui Xudong, the tour guide of Upper Dachen Islands, said.

In addition to wind power generation, Dachen Islands continue to adapt to local conditions and fully develop seawater resources. Recently, the islands built the first island comprehensive green hydrogen energy project in China, using wind power to generate hydrogen and then store it, which realized ‘zero-carbon’ in the whole supply process.

The daily storage can satisfy one-third of island’s power demand. According to Wang Ning, an official with the Dachen Township, power resources are sufficient in these islands, and fuel vehicles are being replaced by electric one step by step. Also, there is a preliminary idea of developing electric ferries.
Dachen Islands are one of the Zero-carbon energy supply areas in China, aiming to fulfill China's commitment that reaches the carbon peak before 2030 and achieves carbon neutrality before 2060.
